Set backs and covid!!!

Neither are fun or what you want mid-season!

So recently I’ve had covid which meant one week off the bike and two weeks off racing. Its been difficult to say the least…

Im sure many people have now experienced covid and know what it feels like, I for one did definitely not enjoy the experience!

Losing my mind….

So being off the bike for a week was hard for many reasons!

Firstly, I obviously love riding haha. I also cycle most days after work, it gives me something to look forward to, and feels like a release especially if I have had a stressful day at work.

I also did not enjoy having a week off mid-season, I felt as if this would be a major setback to all the hard training I had been doing. However, I had to listen to my body and rest as I was exhausted and achy for a fair few days. I had also heard from others that they did not rest for long enough as they started to feel better, they got on the bike too soon and started to feel unwell again taking a massive step back, so I was really careful not to jump back on too soon.

Refocusing my mind....

I tried to keep my mind busy while resting (not something I find easy) and yes it did involve a lot of crying down the phone!

I did give myself some time to refocus my goals and also had time to relax, chill and a number of dog walks (which you may have seen if you follow my stories the number of dog videos/photos haha sorry not sorry)! But I am sorry for the lack of cycling content, I was also taking a bit of a break from social media!

Going forward I am a little apprehensive of my first race back this Friday. I’ve been feeling good in training this week, but it just so happens that my first race post covid will be Ilkley national crit. It will be my first time doing this race so I don’t know what to expect. I’m going to go into the race with an open mind and just do the best I can given the circumstances.
