Lee Valley crit race 19/03/2022

First race around lee valley circuit in a while. I have raced here once before, pre-covid and really liked the circuit so was looking forward to some races here again, unfortunately there were not many women’s races here last year. As it was my first e/1/2/3 race of the year and the start list also showed a stacked field,

I was keen to see if I had progressed from last year and was aiming to finish in the top 15.

My result

Mixed feelings about my result! Overall, I was quite pleased to come 10th, I felt really good all race however after being ridden into with just two laps to go I lost my positioning and had to fight my way back towards the front. So I did feel like I could have done better but still pleased with this result in the first e/1/2/3 category race of the season.

The race

An interesting race with many attacks from the get go! Lots of opportunities for a breakaway presented themselves but nothing stuck. Initially I was worried a breakaway would get away so I worked hard to chase any down. However, after many failed attempts I decided to stop wasting my energy chasing them down. Instead, I sat in the bunch trying to keep a good position. With two laps to go another girl rode into me quite hard, I think the bike did actually get some air time, im not sure how I kept it upright! This made me feel a bit wobbly so close to the finish and I had to get my head back into the game with little time til the finish. With it all coming down to the final sprint I focused on getting a good position in the last lap.

Pre race

Does anyone else feel quite stressed and time pressured before a race? No matter how early you have got there? Let me know if anyone is interested in my pre-race routine, if not I wont bore you with the details haha.
