Lancaster crit race 12/03/22

Updated: Apr 1, 2022

Blast from the past! I raced at the Lancaster circuit years ago when I was at uni there, it

was my first ever race. I got convinced to try it by my fellow uni cyclists and most

definitely got dropped (I was not quite as fit and drank copious amounts of alcohol).

Anyway it was great to return and do it all again (minus the getting dropped I have to

say)!

My result

Obviously the only interesting part! Unfortunately, only a field of 4 riders (will come to this later). Was very happy to take the win!

The race

Obviously not going to be quite as interesting with only 4 riders. The race was only 40 minutes and we stayed together for about the first 20. I then started to get a bit itchy and wanted to do something so put in an attack. This then split the group so we ended up with two of us at the front. I have to admit the other girl seemed happy sitting on the front for way too long and I wasn’t going to complain about this. It then came down to the final sprint between the two of us and I managed to beat her to the line!

The warm up?

No I joke im not going to bore you with my warm up details again…. Get on rollers.. spin legs… get off rollers… what more do you want to know?

Instead I thought id talk about the fact we only had four women in the race. Its left me wondering how do some races fill up and some just have barely anyone enter them? Is it to do with location? Type of race? Any suggestions I would really value your input?

I also spoke to the commissaire about how to improve the number of women that turn up. Again any suggestions would be great?
