Halesowen Road Race 15th May

Rolling? My a**

As a Nat B E/1/2/3 road race I wanted to really target this race and do well so was aiming for a top ten, however I then did a recce of the course on Saturday and realised how hilly the course was. As someone who prefers flat courses, I wasn’t so happy with this!

The race

4 laps of the almost 14 mile circuit! Loved the distance, didn’t love the rain quite so much! The race started off absolutely savage and I had to fight to stay in on the climbs, I definitely had the “oh no I’m about to get dropped” thought.

However, I clung in and was so pleased when the pace calmed down massively. The next few laps I felt much more comfortable and was happy to finish in the main group. The sprint for the finish was quite chaotic and I positioned myself on the left (big mistake) and got myself very blocked in finishing towards the back of the bunch in 24th.

Overall

I am happy with this race as it gave me a lot of confidence on riding hillier courses. It also gave me so much experience and things to take from the race. Practice moving up and positing (something I really need to work on), where to be for the sprint and I also managed to take a bottle first time. Onto the next where I can hopefully put these into practice.
