I absolutely love this circuit, its definitely one of my favourites, basically round and flat! The perfect course for me! It also gets great numbers of riders, one of the only circuits I know to actually fill the women’s field in November and February!
My result
I thought I start with the most interesting bit, the result, then if you get bored of me you can just stop reading here I guess!!!
I was very happy to come 2nd in the race (I think the field was about 35 girls). Obviously I would have loved to come first but after hard efforts throughout the race I just didn’t have the legs left.
The race
Attacks were made from early on throughout the race, I was watching a couple of riders especially thinking they may be likely to try to get a breakaway going. My suspicions were confirmed after just a couple of laps in as a few riders attacked and the whole field didn’t follow. I worked hard to get into the breakaway and we then had a group of five. This worked really well as we worked together to get it fully away, we a gap time of just over a minute in the end. It stuck!
The sprint to the line was between 4 as one girl dropped back with about 2 laps to go. I knew my legs were short after the long breakaway in the windy conditions. I just had to stick it out for the long sprint!
The warmup
Probably the most boring part of the race but also a very important component! (don’t worry I wont normally give you drivel about the boring parts of my warm up. Yawn!). This was just a slightly weird warm up so I thought I would share. I got on the rollers as usual and first started with an easy spin, after about 5minutes or so I started to get warm so stopped to adjust my clothing slightly. As I got off the rollers I got a wave of dizzy spells and felt really sick. My hearing seemed to dull and I felt a bit spinny. I just wondered had anyone else ever felt like this in a warm up before? I’ve not experienced it before but I also don’t normally stop half way through. Might also be worth adding I felt absolutely fine before. Although I do always feel very nervous before a race so this could play into it?
